A hoary history etched in a setting of scenic splendor "KOLLAM" is a rich historical tapestry woven in a verdant waterscape.
 
Quilon or Kollam, an old sea port town on the Arabian coast, stands on the Ashtamudi lake. Kollam, the erstwhile Desinganadu, had a sustained commercial reputation from the days of the Phoenicians and the Romans. Fed by the Chinese trade, it was regarded by lbn Batuta, as one of the five chief parts, which he had seen in the course of his travels during a period of twenty four years, in the 14th Century.
 
Once a city of palaces, Kollam has been known to the outside world, by the time honored proverb, "Once you have seen Kollam you would no more need your illam ( home )".

Thangasseri: It is located 5 Km from Kollam city. Thangasseri is historically important as the remnants and ruins of Portughese/Dutch for and in 18th century church are evident. The 3 km long beach has a light house.
 
Thirumullavaram Beach: It is located 6 km from Kollam city. Is a beautiful quiet beach and historically important.
 
Thevalli palace: The beautiful and historical important palace situated on the banks of Ashtamudi Kayal (back water) Sasthamkotta 26 Km. north-east of Kollam city. Sasthamkotta is situated on the bank of Kallada river. There is a temple dedicated to Lord Sastha. Sasthamkotta lake The place in known for the Sasthamkotta fresh water lake. The natural gift is set amidst scenic surroundings covered by hills on the three sides.
 
Alumkadavu, Karunagappalli: 35 Kms from Kollam Alumkadavu is famous house boat building centre. House boats are main attractions of backwater tourism. Alumkadavu is a famous backwater tourst place.
 
Minagapalli Manoorkavu Devi Temple is famous for Kathakali. The temple is very important for Kathakali students and fans. The temple festival is very attractive.
 
Ochira: 6. 38 Km from Kollam Ochira is a Hindu Pilgrim centre. The unique Parabrahma Temple dedicated to universal truth. Here no temples. Ochira Kali (June) and Panthrandu Vilakku) (November/December) are main festivals.
 
Kottarakkara: 25 km. from Kollam Kottarakkara Ganapathi Temple The birth place of Kathakali. The temple is dedicated to Lord Ganapathi (elephant face God). The temple is also famous for Kottarakkara Unniappam. A rare sweet food.
 
Kottarakkara Kathakali Museum: Kottarakkara Thamburan Kathakali Museum, is the memorial of Kottarakkara Thamburan (King) the father of the Kathakali. Exhibited various models of Kathakali, Kathakali classes and ornaments, rare musical instruments, sculptures, models of mohiniyattam and other classical dances, 108 natya Kiranangal (Dance Sings) etc.
 
Kottukkal: [Route: Kollam-Kottarakkara-Anchal-Kottukkal] Kottukkal Rock Temple The only one rock temple in the district. The rock temple situated near M.C. Road.
 
Kottukkal Farm: Kottukkal Farm Located 8 Km. from Anchal town. The farm spread over 140.54 hector. Coconut plantation, herbs plantaiton, gardens and cattle farm are situated here. The very rare medical plants included the medical garden.
 
Punalur : 40 Km from Kollam The suspention bridge, Punalur built in 18.77 over Kallada river is a star attraction. Kazhuthurutty An important point of Kollam-Shencotta road.

Thenmala: 70 km from Kollam The small hill town amidst thick forest Thenmala is an interesting picknic place to enjoy natural scenery The main attraction is trekking. Boating facility also available. Best Season - September to January
 
Thenmala Deer Park: The another attraction of Thenmala. Thenmala Rock Shelters Near Thenmala Police Station and another is near from R.P.G. estate. They are 5000 year old.
 
Shendaruni wild life sanctury: 70 km from Kollam The forest area is evergreen forest. Is a nature's gift. Trekking facility available here.
 
Aryankavu: 80 km from Kollam Ariyankavu is a beautiful hill area. The famous Sastha Temple is situated here. The place is a Hindu Pilgrim centre. Bordilon's teak plantation, Ariyankavu Bordilon, the first forest conservate of Thiruvithamcoor. He use firstly in the world teak stump to the teak plantation in 1891. The teak plot is a part of Eco-Tourism Palaruvi Waterfalls 5 km from Ariyankavu. The water falls gets the name as it gives an impression of flowing milk.
 
Achencovil: 95 km from Kollam Is an hilly area. Basically Achencovil is a main Hindu pilgrim center in Kerala. Achencovil Sastha temple is one of the five Sastha temples in Kerala. Achencovil is also a Eco-Tourist place. Trekking is an important attraction.
 
Manalarkadu: (Manalar Forest) 12 km. from Achencovil Seson - June to August In Manalar forest you contact to the nature. Trekking and other travels facility in the forest are available. Is the center of rare specious birds, orchids and other flowers.
 
Kubhavurutty water falls: One of the main attraction of Achencovil The waterfalls and near places are absolutely nature's gift. The place is near from NH 208.
 
Clappana: Clappana Shanmukha Vilasam Higher Secondary School The walls of the school are carrying massive datas.
